C.M.C.S. is an independent school in Hamilton, Ontario, educating learners from preschool through to grade eight.

Needs of Our Community / Open House
Thursday, March 6, 2025 3:30 – 5:30 pm
Every year, the staff of Colin Macdonald Community School selects one topic to study as a whole school. And each classroom - regardless of age or grade - takes on the challenge of learning about that topic. Teachers and their students employ art, music, French, math, science, geography, history, culture, drama and literature in the course of learning about a particular subject. Some of our past topics have included “In our Backyard,” The Human Body, Our Town, Asia, South America, North America, Europe, Planet Earth, Australia, Africa, Water, The Solar System and Space and Frozen Worlds.
The topic for this year is “Needs of Our Community.” When we have an understanding of our community needs, we are better able to prioritize and develop relevant health programming and services, social structure, relationships, history, strengths, and conflicts. When we understand our community’s assets…we can figure out how they can be used to help address our community needs. In thriving communities, people show up for one another in hard times and to celebrate…. so that no one is going it alone. Networks of mutual support mean that we can depend on others to step up and support with respect and dignity.
